Emirates Hills is custom-built plot by plot, which means no two houses share a specification and most run to estate scale: staff quarters, guest wings, gatehouses, multiple plant rooms, and lighting schemes with hundreds of circuits. This is where a wired backbone earns its keep. KNX or Crestron for lighting and climate, Lutron HomeWorks where the lighting design demands it, Control4 or Crestron as the interface, and a network engineered like a small building's rather than a home's.
The discipline is the same as our commercial work: drawings first, single-line schematics, panel schedules, structured cabling to every room, and documentation the next engineer can follow.
At this scale the backbone is usually Lutron HomeWorks or KNX, with Crestron or Control4 as the control layer; villa automation explains how the layers fit together.
Working with the architect and the interior designer
On a house of this scale we join the design team at concept stage. Risers, containment and rack rooms cost nothing to design in and a fortune to retrofit; keypad finishes and lighting layers are decided with the interior designer, not after the fit-out. Specification consultancy for architects and designers is at no cost.
