motorised blinds and shading for yachts in Dubai

All that glass, with the sun and the marina on your terms.

Modern yachts carry more glass than ever: full-height saloon windows, cabin ports near the waterline and glazed bulwarks on the upper decks. In Dubai that glass brings heat load and a marina full of neighbours as well as the view. We design, install and commission motorised blinds and curtains for vessels berthed in Dubai Harbour, Dubai Marina, Port Rashid and Abu Dhabi.

The shading, its drives and the control electronics all sit inside the climate-controlled interior. We integrate the shades with the lighting and AV so the owner's cabin goes to blackout in one press and the saloon reacts to the sun through the day.

Who this is for

  • Owners who want true blackout in the owner's cabin and a quiet wake-up in the morning
  • Captains at a busy berth who need privacy in the saloon and cabins without the crew closing every blind by hand
  • Refit yards and interior designers who need shading coordinated with pelmets, headlinings and the electrical contractor
  • Owners' representatives who want shades on the same control system as lighting and AV, not a separate remote in each cabin

What MK Iconic does

How we deliver it

Survey of every opening

We measure each window, port and skylight on board, note pelmet depth and headlining detail, and check the power and cable route to each drive. Curved glass, raked windows and escape-route openings all affect the fabric, the track and the fixing.

Fabric and drive selection

Blackout for sleeping cabins, sheer fabrics for the saloon where the view matters, and dual rollers where the owner wants both. Lutron Sivoia QS and Palladiom Shading are our usual choice on Lutron vessels; on Crestron and Control4 vessels we specify shades those systems control natively.

Scenes that match life on board

At anchor the saloon opens up. Underway, the sun side closes. For cinema, the saloon goes to blackout with the lights. At night the owner's cabin seals in one press from the bedside keypad. We build these scenes with the captain, not from a template.

Install, commission and handover

Tracks and drives are fitted with the yard's joinery team, limits set for every shade, and group behaviour tested from keypads, touch screens and the crew's page. Iconic Care™ then covers remote monitoring and a client portal with service reports and system status; a fault reported by WhatsApp, email or phone is logged as a ticket.

Interior shading

Blinds and curtains for the saloon and cabins

Motorised rollers, roman blinds and curtain tracks for the interior of the vessel. Lutron Sivoia QS drives are quiet and precise, and Lutron rates them for indoor use between 0 and 40 °C, which is exactly where they go on a yacht: the saloon, dining, owner's suite and guest cabins, all climate-controlled. We do not fit them on open decks and we do not call them marine-rated, because Lutron does not.

Palladiom Shading brings the same system with an architectural finish for the owner who wants the hardware on show. Fabrics are chosen for blackout, glare and heat load, and matched to the joinery with the interior designer.

Best for: Saloon, dining, owner's suite and guest cabins

Control

One system for shades, lights and AV

Shades earn their place when they move with everything else. On Lutron HomeWorks, Sivoia QS shades share the lighting system, so one keypad scene handles both. On Crestron and Control4 vessels the shades are driven from the same touch screens and keypads as audio, video and climate, and the crew sees every shade from one page.

Scenes for anchor, underway, cinema and night are programmed with the captain, with a sun-tracking schedule for the saloon in summer. Processors sit in the climate-controlled technical space; keypads and touch screens are indoor devices inside the vessel.

Best for: Vessels running Lutron HomeWorks, Crestron or Control4

Questions

Yacht blinds and shading: questions we get asked

Are Lutron shades marine-rated?

No, and we will not tell you otherwise. Lutron rates Sivoia QS drives for indoor use between 0 and 40 °C, which suits every climate-controlled interior space on a yacht, and that is where we fit them. Exterior sun protection on open decks comes from marine shade and awning specialists; we integrate their controls where they allow it.

Can the crew close every blind for privacy at the berth from one place?

Yes. A privacy scene closes the saloon and cabin blinds from the crew's screen or one keypad, leaving the owner's cabin under the owner's control if preferred. The same page shows which shades are open, so nobody walks the decks to check.

Can you add motorised blinds to an existing yacht without rewiring?

Often, yes. Battery-powered Sivoia QS Triathlon shades suit a refit where running cable to each window is impractical, and wired drives go in where the headlining is already coming down. We survey first and tell you which openings need which approach.
