What a video processor does, and why a projector needs one
Films are mastered in HDR for displays that can reach a thousand nits or more. A projector in a cinema room produces a fraction of that on the screen, so the film has to be remapped into the projector's range before it is shown. Do that badly, or statically, and you get either crushed shadows or blown highlights. madVR Envy does it dynamically, measuring every frame and adjusting in real time, which is why a film on an Envy-fed projector looks balanced in every scene rather than in the one the settings were tuned for.
Around that core sit the other things a serious room needs from one box: best-in-class upscaling for everything that is not already 4K, aspect-ratio detection with masking and lens control, 3D LUT calibration storage, per-source profiles and, on the Extreme, motion interpolation and geometry correction. One processor in the rack, every source through it, every evening the same picture.
Extreme MK3, Pro MK3 or Core MK2?
All three run the same madVR picture science and the same software; the difference is horsepower, and horsepower decides which features are available and how far they go. The Core MK2 is for a well-specified 4K room that wants madVR's tone mapping and upscaling at the lowest entry point. The Pro MK3 is what we specify for most reference rooms with a high-end 4K projector: full HDMI 2.1, 5K and 8K upscaling, and room to grow. The Extreme MK3 is for the rooms where nothing is left on the table, with MotionAI, geometry correction and the longest warranty.
Screen shape matters as much as projector class. A scope screen with masking, a curved screen or an anamorphic lens all lean on the Envy's aspect-ratio and geometry work, and the more demanding the screen the more an Extreme earns its place.
madVR Envy with Kaleidescape, Control4 and Crestron
An Envy is only as good as its integration. We connect every source through it, build a profile per source and per screen format, and have Control4 or Crestron load the right one when you pick what to watch. With a Kaleidescape the aspect-ratio and playback cues come from the player, so masking, lens and tone-mapping profile change on their own. The result is a cinema where you press one button and nothing else needs touching.

Calibration in Dubai: what we do on site
A processor is not a substitute for calibration; it is what makes calibration stick. We calibrate the projector in the finished room with the real screen gain, the real ambient light and the real seating, store the result in the Envy, and then set the tone-mapping behaviour for how the room is used, from pitch-dark film nights to a Sunday afternoon match with some light in the room. Profiles are saved per source, so the picture does not drift when somebody switches from Kaleidescape to a console.
Dubai adds two practical points: projectors and processors live in racks that must be ventilated properly through the summer, and lamp or laser output changes over time, so we recheck calibration during Iconic Care™ visits rather than once at handover.
