The brief
The owners of a villa in the Green Community wanted proper Lutron lighting control without tearing the house apart, and they wanted to use their own electrician for the physical installation. That is a perfectly sensible way to do it, provided the Lutron side is designed and programmed by people who are certified to do so. RadioRA 3 is Lutron's wireless system for exactly this situation: finished homes, no new cabling, the dimming quality of the wired systems.
At the time this was, to our knowledge, the first RadioRA 3 system installed in Dubai.
How we approached it
We designed the system around the existing circuits: eleven controlled loads on concealed in-line dimmer and switch modules, hidden near the fittings rather than behind the switch plates, so the villa's existing wall positions could be kept. Rather than a keypad on every wall, two four-button Vierti hybrid keypads act as scene controllers for the main living spaces, with Lutron's Light Levels preset engraving so nothing needed a custom engraving lead time.
Every device was programmed and commissioned in our workshop before it went to site. The processor, the modules and the keypads arrived as a working system with a wiring schedule and a device map, so the electrician's job was purely mechanical: fit the modules, terminate the loads, mount the keypads. We then attended for final commissioning, adjusted levels room by room and set up the Lutron app for the family.
The result
A Lutron system in a finished villa, with no chased walls and no disruption, installed by the client's preferred electrician and certified by us. Scenes at the door, dimming that actually dims, and a system that Lutron's own app and support recognise as properly commissioned.
Why it matters
Two things. First, RadioRA 3 makes Lutron realistic for the thousands of finished Dubai villas that were never wired for it. Second, supply-and-programme is a genuine service: if you have a good electrician, we will design, pre-programme and commission the Lutron part and let them do what they do best.
